Discovery Bhutan Tour ( Days)

This journey of discovery Bhutan, exploring the remote valleys and high passes of Paro, Thimphu, Punakha and the beautiful valley of Phobjikha. The route traverses dramatic, untouched landscapes, awesome dzongs and small villages. The journey begins at Paro and follow by Thimphu , Punakha valley and Phojikha

Day 1: Arrive Paro.
Flight into Paro with Druk Air, Bhutan National Airline . The flight takes you over the great Himalayan ranges , offering the most beautiful scenery of the snow-capped mountains and lush valleys. As you enter Paro valley, you will see the Paro Dzong (Fort), the National Museum and the Paro town. Transfer to hotel . Check in and later Lunch .

After lunch, a short excursion to Dzongdrakha monastery . Evening Return to hotel Dinner and overnight at Hotel .

Day 2.  Excursion to Taktsang Monastery, visit historical places.
Following breakfast, drive 10km north through the beautiful valley of Paro and hike to Taktsang (tiger’s Den) monastery hanging on a cliff 800m above the valley. In the 8th century Guru Rimpoche flew here on the back of a tigress in one of his eight forms called Guru Dorje Drolo and meditated for 3 months in a cave and converted Paro valley into Buddhism. Later in the 17th century, the 4thtemporal ruler of Bhutan Tenzin Rabgye built this present temple and named it Taktsang meaning; tiger’s lair in the same spot where Guru meditated. This temple is one of the most sacred and also a pilgrimage centre for Buddhists from all over the world. Overnight at hotel .

Day 03.   Drive Paro-Thimphu Distance: 60km, 2 hours
After breakfast drive through fascinating valley of Paro to Thimphu. A mixture of rice fields, apple orchards and farm houses. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan and is the only large settlement in Bhutan . Enjoy your time in and around valley and overnight at hotel .

Day 4. Hike to Chari & Tango Monasteries.
Following breakfast, 15km drive north of Thimphu valley to Dodina . Cross the cantilever/wooden bridge and hike for about an hour to Cheri monastery through the temperate forest of oak, rhododendrons and other species of hard wood trees. The view from monastery below is very photogenic. Climb down after lunch , drive little on the other side of the valley and walk to another monastery “Tango” . Drive back to hotel and overnight stay .

Day 5. Thimphu sightseeing. Evening drive to Punakha
Enjoy full day of sightseeing that includes Buddha Point , Memorial Chorten,  Changangkha Lhakhang , Mini Zoo , Sangaygang view point, Nunnery , National Library,  Handicrafts Emporiums, National Institute for Zorig Chusum (thirteen traditional arts & crafts) , Traditional medicine Institute Tashichhodzong , traditional weaving centre , at the industrial estate at Changzamtog, Bhutanese paper factory and philatelic emporium , Craft Bazzar. 

Drive to Punakha, the winter residence of chief abbot. The road climbs for about an hour till you reach a pass at Dochula Pass at an altitude of 3150M  and this pass offers the most spectacular view over the high peaks of the eastern Himalayas. On arrival, check in to the Hotel and Overnight .

Day 6. Sightseeing in Punakha
Visit the Punakha Dzong some 7-8 km away from the hotel. Punakha Dzong is the most impressive dzong in Bhutan situ
