Explore Bhutan Tour ( Days)

 This tour covers the whole of western and central Bhutan. It gives ample opportunities and experience to travel enthusiasts who wanted to explore countryside of Bhutan in details.  Day 01 Arrive Paro , Drive to Thimphu Distance: 55km, Time: 2 hours
Flight into Paro with Druk Air, Bhutan National Airline . The flight takes you over the great Himalayan ranges , offering the most beautiful scenery of the snow-capped mountains and lush valleys. As you enter Paro valley, you will see the Paro Dzong (Fort), the National Museum and the Paro town. After completing the formalities, you will drive through fascinating valley of Paro to Thimphu. A mixture of rice fields, apple orchards and farm houses. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan and is the only large settlement in Bhutan. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02.  Sightseeing of Thimphu valley 
Following breakfast, enjoy full day of sightseeing that includes Buddha Point , Memorial Chorten,  Changangkha Lhakhang , Mini Zoo , Sangaygang view point, Nunnery , National Library,  Handicrafts Emporiums, National Institute for Zorig Chusum (thirteen traditional arts & crafts) , Traditional medicine Institute Tashichhodzong , traditional weaving centre , at the industrial estate at Changzamtog, Bhutanese paper factory and philatelic emporium , Craft Bazzar.  Overnight at hotel . 

Day 03  Week end market, Hike to Cheri & Tango monasteries. (Fri, Sat & Sun)
Following breakfast, 15km drive north of Thimphu valley to Dodina . Cross the cantilever/wooden bridge and hike for about an hour to Cheri monastery through the temperate forest of oak, rhododendrons and other species of hard wood trees. The view from monastery below is very photogenic. Climb down after lunch , drive little on the other side of the valley and walk to another monastery “Tango” . Drive back to hotel and overnight stay .

Day 04  Drive to Punakha:Distance: 75km, Time 3 hours   
Drive to Punakha, the winter residence of chief abbot. The road climbs for about an hour till you reach a pass at Dochula Pass at an altitude of 3150M  and this pass offers the most spectacular view over the high peaks of the eastern Himalayas. On arrival, check in to the Hotel. Dinner and overnight at the hotel .

Day 05. Sightseeing in Punakha. (Punakha altitude: 1300mts/4290ft) 
Visit the Punakha Dzong some 7-8 km away from the hotel. Punakha Dzong is the most impressive dzong in Bhutan situated in the confluence of Phochhu & Mochhu (male & female rivers). Later Drive some 8 km north; cross the suspension bridge and hike for 45 minutes to a newly built Kham Sum Yuelley Namgyel Chorten built by one of the 4 queen mothers for the protection of the country and to bring peace in the world.
Following lunch visit Chime Lhakhang - was built in 1499 by his descendent Ngawang Chogyel. This temple is popularly known as “temple of fertility” and is the pilgrim site for couple who are unable to bear children. Overnight at hotel. 

Day 06 Drive to Bumthang Distance: 211km, Time: 7 hours. (2600mts/8580ft) 
After breakfast, drive to Bumthang . The road passes through Wangdi district crossing over Pilela pass (alt. 3,300m) . The scenery is stunning so you will be stopped frequently for taking beautiful pictures . Descending from the other side it is a long way down to Trongsa. The Dzong looks superb from a great distance. After short stop at Trongsa continue drive to Bumthang, one of the most spectacular valleys in Bhutan and also the heartland of Buddhism. From Trongsa drive through the Yotong La pass (3,400m) and descend eventually into the valley of Chumey & Chamkhar. Drive further up cross kikila pass at 2900mts and finally descend down to the valley of Chamkhar. Overnight at Lodge.
Day 07.  At Bumthang. 
Following breakfast, drive around the valley and visit the historically important temples. Bumthang is the general name given to a complex of 4 valleys viz: Chumey, Choekor, Tang & Ura with altitude varies from 2600m to 4000m. Visit Kurje Lhakhang , Jambay Lhakhang , Tamshing Lhakhang, Koncho Sum lhakhang .Overnight at lodge.

Day 08.  Drive to Trongsa Distance: 68km, time: 2 hours. 
Following breakfast, drive back to Trongsa via the same road crossing over Kilila pass . On arrival in Trongsa, check in to the hotel. After lunch, you can drive further south to Kuengarabten village, the old winter resident of the second king. Evening; return to Trongsa. Overnight at Hotel .

Day 09. Drive to Wangude via Phobjikha valley Distance: 145km, Time: 5 hours
Following breakfast, drive to Wangdue. Cross the Pilelea pass at 3300mts and after few kilometers downhill, head towards left to the beautiful valley to Phobjikha. Visit the famous Gangtay Goenpa . Visit the valley below which is the winter home for black necked cranes that migrates from Tibet in winter. After lunch, continue your drive to Wangdue. Overnight at hotel .

Day 10. Drive Wangdue – Paro via Thimphu Distance: 135, Time: 4 hrs. 
Following breakfast drive to Paro via Dochula pass. En route stop in Thimphu for lunch. After lunch, Drive to Paro in the evening. On arrival check in to the hotel. Dinner and overnight at hotel . 

Day 11.  Hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery), Drukgyel Dzong, Kichu Lhakhang, National Museum & Rinpong Dzong. 
Following breakfast, drive 10km north through the beautiful valley of Paro and hike to Taktsang (tiger’s Den) monastery hanging on a cliff 800m above the valley. In the 8th century Guru Rimpoche flew here on the back of a tigress in one of his eight forms called Guru Dorje Drolo and meditated for 3 months in a cave and converted Paro valley into Buddhism. Later in the 17th century, the 4th temporal ruler of Bhutan Tenzin Rabgye built this present temple and named it Taktsang meaning; tiger’s lair in the same spot where Guru meditated. This temple is one of the most sacred and also a pilgrimage centre for Buddhists from all over the world. 
Later visit Kilchu Lhakhang and back to hotel . Dinner and overnight at hotel .  

Day 12 Final Departure 
Following breakfast, drive to airport for your return flight. Farewell and wish you safe journey back home.
